Inspiration Monday :: Love

"Love is a force more formidable than any other.
It is invisible - it cannot be seen or measured,
yet it is powerful enough to transform you in a moment,
and offer you more joy than any material possession could."

Getting to Know our Designers :: Nellie Partow

After graduating with a degree in business at San Francisco State University, Nellie Partow moved to New York to try fashion design. While still studying at Parson's, Partow was given a great opportunity work for Donna Karan, and then Calvin Klein and John Varvatos upon graduation. These experiences exposed her to the inner workings of the fashion industry and inspired her to start her own line.
Partow's designs capture the essence of elegant minimalism. Clean lines and neutral color palettes with strikes of color grace her runways, reflecting an effortless femininity and allure.
Without defining her customer as one type of woman, Partow hopes that any woman who wears one of her designs feels beautiful.
Her current Spring 2013 collection was inspired by desert landscapes at sunrise and sunset. Fiery cherry red offers a beautiful and bold contrast to sand white and beige, capturing the the natural hues and textures of the Arizona desert.
Partow's chic and minimal designs are the epitome of timeless, functional, and, most importantly, wearable fashion.

Nellie finds the most beautiful fabrics and always produces her garments in the US.  She stays true to that business practice.  We love that!

Getting to Know our Designers :: Derek Lam

Derek Lam, a San Francisco native and Parsons graduate, worked for designer greats such as Michael Kors before realizing that he wanted to start his own line in 2002. His sophisticated, modern style has captivated women and the design world since the first collection. With a focus on fit and fabric, Lam captures femininity through a sleek silhouette, and an unfussy aesthetic.
While many designers look to the past for inspiration, Lam is inspired by the modern woman and the current moment. His designs utilize sexiness and luxury while remaining extremely wearable and flattering.
Whether its designing the perfect trench coat or having fun with print, Derek Lam is setting the bar for modern luxury fashion.
McMullen is proud to announce that we are now carrying the Derek Lam collection, alongside his diffusion line 10 Crosby, at the Grand Avenue location.

Getting to Know our Designers :: Bluma Project

Bluma Project's African inspired jewelry has had us dazzled since we started carrying it.
With its use of bold color and traditional beading techniques, Bluma's pieces make any outfit memorable and fun. But perhaps what is more intriguing about Bluma Project is their program that works with women in Ghana and Rwanda to provide happy working conditions, jewelry making skills, and a means for these women to support their families.
Each woman is mentored by members of Bluma's team on jewelry making techniques and traditional African design. Bluma's team focuses on aesthetic and materials traditional to the villages and immediate areas of the women they employ, while helping them to gain a sustainable wage.
Bluma encourages these women to develop their skill sets and helps them turn beautiful indigenous craftsmanship into modern, wearable art.
Bluma is the perfect combination of heart, soul, and beauty, and we are absolutely in love with their creative and colorful designs.
