NYFW Recap :: Behind the Scenes with Sherri

Last weeks NYFW was an onslaught of coats with texture layered over plaid, herringbone, and chevron patterns in the most luxe way. Menswear-inspired looks of tartan plaid, check, houndstooth jackets and pants mixed with feminine silk blouses in the deepest hues of red, burgundy, and hunter green was a big trend, particularly with newcomer Marisa Webb.

I happened upon one of my favorite classic pairing combos at Derek Lam and Jenni Kayne: camel, black, and a little red. Its a classic combination that will never go out of style.

The color black is back in full force. Although black doesn't merchandise well in the store, I'll be mixing it with pops of cobalt blue, deep burgundy, lovely plaids, and check to create depth in my assortment.

I love 10 Crosby Derek Lam's oversize plaid jackets, the beautifully embroidered tops and dresses at Suno, and the Herringbone silk blouses and suiting at Rag & Bone.

Fur is still trending on the runway (faux and/or real). I saw fur details on everything, including sweatshirts. Speaking of sweatshirts, they were everywhere. I saw them at Timo Weiland, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and Roseanna.

Getting to Know our Designers :: Cushnie et Ochs

Two Parsons grads, Michelle Ochs and Carly Cushnie, teamed together upon graduating in 2008 

to form Cushnie et Ochs. Starting with less than $100,000 to start their line, Cushnie and Ochs received critical acclaim for their first runway show and were instantly picked up by Bergdorf's in New York. Nine collections later, Cushnie et Ochs has become available in high end boutiques and department stores all over the globe.
Focusing on the beauty of the female form, Ochs and Cushnie combine brain power to create edgy, urban looks that celebrate femininity, minimalism, and sexiness.
Their emphasis on clean lines and saturated colors have made them two of the most sought after designers for celebrities like Kate Bosworth and Diane Kruger, and public figures like Michelle Obama.
The two 28 year old designers are taking the fashion world by storm with their clean aesthetic and
individual personalities.
