Derek Lam, a native of San Francisco, began his fashion career in
1990 after graduating from Parsons School of Design. Lam spent twelve years at
the highest levels of American fashion as a designer at Michael Kors before
starting his own label. In 2006 the collection expanded to include handbags,
followed by shoes and eyewear in 2007. In June 2011, he presented his first ever diffusion
line “10 Crosby Derek Lam” named after the address of the Derek Lam headquarters in downtown Manhattan. (read more here).

Los Angeles or Dallas.” He also added, “this new line has a more accessible
approach while maintaining my core principles: Clothing of value and integrity
of design.”
McMullen Q&A with Derek: We asked Derek some questions about his new line, fashion philosophy and style tips to share with you...
1. What was your inspiration for the Spring 2012 collection of 10
Crosby?
For Spring 2012 I wanted to reinterpret Spring classics for the modern 10
Crosby customer. Initially I was inspired by the clothing and graphics of
1960s mod. I wanted to take the crisp freshness of fashion from that era
and create a modern wardrobe.
2. How do you stay motivated and inspired everyday?
Since our headquarters is on Crosby street I can sit in my office and watch the
most interesting fashionable downtown women walk by. This street has been
the major influence for 10 Crosby Derek Lam.
3. What are you most excited about in fashion right now?
Reimagining classics with unexpected twists.
4. What is your top style tip for women (of any age)?
Incorporate saturated bright colors and graphic prints in your wardrobe.
